16 Nov 2024 WORKSHOP. Braiding with Jan Beadle. 11am - 3pm with a break for lunch; fee £13. Full with a waiting list. If there are enough people on the waiting list, the workshop might be repeated at a later date. To join the waiting list email: edinburghguildwsd then @ then gmail.com
21 Dec 2024 FUN SOCIAL MEETING. Normal spinning/weaving/dying/other fibre craft activities continue, and in addition for those who would like to take part, the following will take place throughout the day: Secret Santa; Decoration contest; Pot Luck lunch from 1pm.
18 Jan 2025 SPINNING THE BLUES AWAY. An optional activity. To take part, bring 50 grams of ready-to-spin fibre, packaged to obscure the contents. Any kind of fibre, but prepared so that the recipient of your parcel can start spinning straight away. Parcels will be exchanged amongst participants at 11am. The aim is to spin and ply the fibre by the end of the meeting, so bring anything you'll need for that, and have a display for mutual admiration and compliments at the end.
15 Feb 2025 NO SPECIFIC THEME. While we have no specific theme, it would be great to see your Blues Away spinning or other recent project you're particularly proud of.
15 Mar 2025 WORKSHOP. Long draw spinning with Sue Macniven £35. 10.30am - 3pm. If you would like a space, please email: edinburghguildwsd then @ then gmail.com . We'll confirm if you have a space, and you can then make payment via BACS to the Guild account (details to follow in confirmation email). You will need a wheel, three bobbins, lazy kate and carders. If you don't have your own wheel, a Guild wheel might be available - please ask. Sue intends to have suitable fleece available for purchase at the workshop, but you may also bring your own. Normal workday for those not taking part.
19 Apr 2025 CORNERS. A suggestion was made at the February meeting to revive Corners - an informal version of skill sharing. Corners involves three people demonstrating a skill or technichque each in a separate area of the meeting room. Other members can watch for some amount of time but also float around to the other corners of the room. The person demonstrating may choose a particular technique to demonstrate (using hand combs, making replays, a specific knitting style, etc.) and other members can ask questions. It is anticipated that this would last for 45mins to an hour, or until it seems like the activity has run its course. If there are enough people keen to demonstrate, it might be possible to run two or more rounds. It is our understanding that this type of activity has been done successfully in the past at Guild meetings and we would like to bring it back for April. If you have any questions or especially if you would like to demonstrate something, please email: edinburghguildwsd then @ then gmail.com

Workshops are optional, and are subject to charge to cover the costs of materials and/or the tutor.

Spaces are limited: you must book in advance for workshops.

On days with workshops, members not taking part still meet for a general craft-and-socialise.

Talks are open to everyone, and are financed from Guild funds.

The programme may change. Any changes will be updated on this page and announced in the monthly newsletter and at Guild meetings.
